For stellar leadership, alumni intern Celeste Leandry won the Just Food McKinley Hightower-Beyah Award an award that honors a New York City youth who is committed to urban agriculture, community leadership, and social justice.

She first joined the Youth Internship in 2010 and has since dedicated herself in becoming a leader in the food justice movement both locally and nationally.  She continued in our Youth Internship for three more years expanding her leadership and even externing in 2013 with the Lower East Side Ecology Center.  She attended, presented, and made East New York Farms! proud at the Rooted In Community (RIC) Conference several times over the past years and is a member of the RIC Advisory Council.  She also led a workshop at the 2013 Black and Urban Gardeners Conference.

We would like to congratulate her on her accomplishments and hope that she will continue to not only be a role model for our youth, but for the community as a whole facing food justice issues.
