COVID-19

In the wake of COVID-19, United Community Centers is currently closed. We will be postponing all youth programming, workshops, community forums, ESOL and citizenship classes, and community distributions for the remainder of March and April. The Morris L Eisenstein Learning Center  (MLE) is closed as well. At this time we are not accepting visitors, volunteers, or hosting events at our community center. As stewards of the East New York community our organization will be working diligently to meet community needs, while ensuring the health and safety of our residents and staff. We know these are uncertain times. As new information becomes available, we will be sharing it with the community. To learn more about COVID-19, its symptoms and treatment, please visit  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html Please take care of yourselves and the ones you love. East New York is strong and resilient, we will get through this together.

In solidarity,

MLE teachers will begin on-line teaching support. This week parents will receive emails from their child’s teacher with instructions on how to connect online. Starting Monday, March 23rd, teachers will be sending interactive activities for your children. Please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher via email or through the Teaching Strategies portal. Teachers and staff are putting together a list of learning resources for your children. Parents should have received an email from Teaching Strategies to create an account to receive theme related lessons from your child’s classroom. Many public schools in the area are providing Grab and Go breakfasts and lunches between 7:30am and 1:30pm. You do not have to have your child with you to receive meals. Parents should check email frequently for updates from MLE/UCC and the Department of Education. Pre K enrollment has been extended to Friday, April 3, 2020. The MLE/UCC program code is KBPK. Anyone having difficulty with the application may contact Gina at [email protected] for further assistance. We will continue to update all of you as new information becomes available. East New York Farms! will be dedicating it’s time to growing food on its farms and developing strategies on how to provide fresh produce to residents. Our gardeners assistance and community engagement events will be suspended until further notice for the safety of our staff and community residents. Youth interns will be able to participate in our program through online workshop facilitated training to begin within the next two weeks. Our farmers markets may be postponed this year. We are working on ways to ensure our community is able to access fresh food this season. In the meantime, prospective vendors/gardeners and community educators may fill out required applications and paperwork available online at www.ucceny.org. We will be updating the community as new information becomes available.
