We are a team of many talents. In addition to dabbling in spoken word and poetry, we are now actors and actresses!

This week, Protecting The East performers went to Brownsville Multi-Service Family Health Center to put on a PTE original skit promoting HIV testing for World AIDS Day. Our short piece, “Got My Back”, is a story of a young man discovering that HIV doesn’t just infect one person, it affects friends, family, and a whole community.

Protecting The East sees performance as a medium for connecting with the East New York community. We are using health clinic waiting rooms are to connect with community members as they wait for appointments, both providing information and entertainment to pass the time. If you’re interested in bringing Protecting The East to your health center, youth group, or community program, call 718-649-7979 and ask for Protecting The East.
