East New York Farms!
The mission of East New York Farms! is to organize youth and adults to address food justice in our community by promoting local sustainable agriculture and community-led economic development. East New York Farms! is a project of the United Community Centers in partnership with local residents.
We have been working with youth, gardeners, farmers, and entrepreneurs to build a more just and sustainable community since 1998.

COMMUNITY GARDENS
East New York has more community gardens than any neighborhood in the city. We support gardens through community garden workshops, Summer garden assistance, mini grants, and Share Table. We also connect gardens with members looking for space to grow.
YOUTH INTERNSHIP
We hire young people to participate in our Youth Internship program every year. In this intensive 9-month program, young people engage in hands-on learning around environment, health, community development, leadership, and social justice.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Our Community Education series educates our neighbors about how to grow, prepare, and preserve food.
We operate four urban agricultural spaces, which produce over 70 varieties of cultural relevant foods. Our farm spaces also serve to bring the community together by hosting educational workshops and volunteer days. One of our farms are in NYCHA developments in the neighborhood.
FARMERS' MARKET
Our community-run farmers markets make fresh food available and affordable, while building our local economy and creating places for neighbors to meet and greet.
COMPOST
East New York Farms! has been composting for over 15 years. We collect food scraps year-round to process into nutrient-rich compost for farms and gardens in East New York to grow organic produce.

Culinary Heritage and Food Justice Beneath the clatter of the elevated subway in the Brooklyn neighborhood of East New York is a garden full of vegetables you won’t find on local grocery stores shelves, including a healthy plot of tall callaloo.
WNYC, October 2012 Dora Hinds grew up as a city girl in her native Guyana, but that didn’t stop her from creating her own agricultural oasis when she moved to the Nehemiah houses in East New York, Brooklyn, several years ago.
