United Community Centers (UCC) is a social justice driven community center that has been serving the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn for over 60 years. Our programs include an early childhood education program; the East New York Farms! Project, an urban agriculture and food justice program which includes a paid internship for local youth; immigration assistance; and Protecting the East, an HIV/AIDS health education and risk reduction program which includes a paid peer educator internship for local youth. In addition to our human services, we are extremely active in advocacy and organizing efforts in our own community and city-wide.

Hours: Full-Time – With health benefits
Salary: $50.00/Hr.
Travel Required: Yes. Willing to travel and work evenings and weekends when needed

About the Project:

Project Hope is a program that provides free crisis counseling services to persons, families, and groups most affected by Covid-19. Services will be psychoeducational in nature, not psychotherapeutic, and will include individual and group counseling, educational workshops and brief interventions. Services will be provided in a hybrid model of virtual and in person. Services include outreach and engagement in community settings; education and training; assessment and referral to mental health and substance abuse programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adequate and appropriate staffing and oversight for the Crisis Counseling Program; ensure that all staff receive the CCP training provided by New York State.
  • Regularly conduct site visits to providers, and provide direct observation and supervision of crisis counselors to ensure appropriate service delivery.
  • Provide general consultation for team leaders and crisis counselors who work directly with clients.
  • Partner with community-based organizations to identify individuals who need crisis counseling.
  • Organize outreach activities, and guide the crisis counseling staff in their outreach planning and service delivery to identify individuals who need crisis counseling.
  • Plan and implement virtual outreach utilizing email and social media venues.
  • Plan creative and innovative programs to reach individuals impacted by COVID19.
  • Ensure documentation of services and comply with federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
  • Serve as a liaison between other mental health providers, and to other Crisis Counseling Programs to ensure non-duplication of services.
  • Acts as lead coordinator and manager for the state crisis counseling response and is the main point of contact for the State CCP Program Manager/Director and OMH. 
  • Oversees fiscal tracking, monitoring and reporting to funder.
  • Oversees staffing, training, reporting, data analysis, and fiscal monitoring.
  • Sometimes serves as a team leader.
  • Works with other disaster service agencies to ensure coordination of behavioral health response and no duplication of services.
  • Conducts regular site visits to providers and accompanies crisis counselors as an observer to ensure appropriate services are delivered.
  • Represents UCC and Project/Hope Crisis Counseling Program (CCP) at high-level meetings within the community and state leadership meetings.
  • Represents UCC and Project Hope in the community and networks with other agencies and partners.
  • Provides presentations to community groups on disaster reactions, coping skills, stress management, and the CCP.

Qualification and Preferred Skills

  • A Master’s Degree in Social work, Mental Health Counseling, Public Health, Public Administration, or other relevant graduate degree from an accredited college or university
  • A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of professional experience in a mental health related job
  • Clinical knowledge and significant experience in behavioral health treatment and/or services strongly preferred
  • Experience with crisis counseling program or disaster response, desired
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable but not required
