UCC Stands in Solidarity

United Community Centers (UCC) stands in solidarity with people throughout the US and the world who have been victims of racist policies that have denied Black people the ability to live lives free of fear and violence. The murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade and countless others by law enforcement and racist civilians has reignited a civil rights movement in this country.  We demand change in the criminal legal system and the policing of Black communities where the presumption of guilt and disregard for Black lives drives ongoing state-sanctioned violence. Also, we demand changes to an economic system that continues to oppress communities of color, perpetuating cycles of poverty; to a political system that denies people their right to vote and a fair process; to an education system that is both separate and unequal;  to a healthcare system that denies access for millions and created the conditions for COVID19 to devastate Black and Brown communities; and to biased housing policies that rob people of their basic human rights.  UCC reaffirms our commitment to social justice and creating an equitable society for all – the goals toward which UCC has been fighting for over 60 years. There is no easy solution, this will not be done overnight, but we MUST keep working. We must speak out where we see injustice and march forward together for a better nation for ALL
